The Cost of Unhealthy Behaviors
The majority of U.S. healthcare costs are due to preventable behaviors. Chronic illnesses largely tied to lifestyle and unhealthy behaviors account for more than 75% of the $2.9 trillion in annual healthcare spending.1 Rising healthcare costs are only part of the problem. The productivity loss caused by health-related absenteeism and presenteeism costs employers significantly more than medical costs alone.2 In response, employers are turning to workplace health programs to improve employee health.
